Our group will convene to discuss The Nightingale Thursday, November 12 at 6:30. Shirley will be both our host and fearless discussion leader. The main dish will a book-inspired pork dish and leek pie. If you are feeling in the spirit French-ish and other novel-nod foods are encouraged. See below for some of food mentioned in the book:
Sides: Browned potatoes, caramelized onions & garlic; roasted vegetables, buttered peas
with tarragon, pickled cucumber, mushrooms with bacon and sage, pumpkin puree, etc.
Bread: Baguettes, cheeses (Camembert if anybody likes stinky cheese)
Desserts: Chocolate bar, chocolates, apples glazed with wine sauce, pears, toasted meringues in creme anglaise, tapioca pudding
Drinks: Wines mentioned are Montrachet, Chateau Margaux, Sancerra. German and Belgian beers are mentioned but I didn’t see names….
