May 2013 Book Pick

Night Circus

May 2013 Book Pick

Melissa has spearheaded an exciting book selection which resulted in a unanimous choice –
Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern — will be our May 2013 book.
See below for a brief description:

The circus arrives without warning. No announcements precede it. It is simply there, when yesterday it was not. Within the black-and-white striped canvas tents is an utterly unique experience full of breathtaking amazements. It is called Le Cirque des RĂªves, and it is only open at night. But behind the scenes, a fierce competition is underway: a duel between two young magicians, Celia and Marco, who have been trained since childhood expressly for this purpose by their mercurial instructors. Unbeknownst to them both, this is a game in which only one can be left standing. Despite the high stakes, Celia and Marco soon tumble headfirst into love, setting off a domino effect of dangerous consequences, and leaving the lives of everyone, from the performers to the patrons, hanging in the balance.

The two runners up were:
1.The St. Zita Society by Ruth Rendell
2. Skios by Michael Frayn

Christmas is Just Around the Bend!

It is that time of year again, pick out a book and a bottle of wine and get thyself to the annual Bookplates’s Christmas extravaganza. Flings, beaus and tenured hubbies all are encouraged to come. We will discuss our favorite reads for the year, gracefully duke it out for our book and wine of choice through a jolly game of Dirty Santa and have an all around rowdy good time.

June is continuing her Christmas streak and will be our hostess for now her third Christmas party. The menu is still under draft but lobster risotto, French Onion Soup and Onion Tart are all finalists. Whatever the ultimate decision we know we are in good hands in June’s kitchen.

Please leave a comment and say you can come and what edible/imbibable treat you will bring to share.
