We had a wonderful May meeting this week at Rachel’s home. She delighted us with a wonderful Salmon-Black Bean dish, and Norma May wowed everyone with her hearty South African multi-grain bread. I even nabbed a few extra pieces which made wonderful Saturday morning toast.
Bonnie lead our discussion of Cutting for Stone, and despite consensus that the plot and characters at times seemed contrived almost everyone (who read it) universally loved it. June commented that it was very different from his earlier works and Shirley added that he may have tried to write some of his medical background into his novel.
I gave out the charts (also posted on this site) and reviewed the new book selection chart. Despite the matrix of many colors I assured everyone that it quite simplistic. A few edits and corrections were suggested including a “due date” for each selection. The revised version will be posted very soon. At each meeting the book for two months out will be announced. In keeping with this schedule I announced on Thursday our July read will be “Outliers” by Malcom Gladwell, based on my proposal of three books and a vote by Shannon and Bonnie (my other two team members).
More on this book will be posted after our June meeting (would hate to confuse anyone about our next book).
See everyone at our June 10th meeting. It will be hosted by Kim Oh and we need a book leader. If anyone remembers who suggested “Girl with the Dragonfly Tatoo” or would like to lead the discussion please post here. Looking forward to seeing everyone! Look for upcoming posts on reviews of the book as well as suggestions/requests of what dishes to bring.
